Kandahar Street

Kandahar Street was once a bustling textile, fabrics and handicrafts trading centre in the past. The types of people frequenting the street were different than what we saw during the tour. This is due to the business development in that area. Such traditional shops are being replaced with restaurants and cafes patronised by middle-aged adults and teenagers. Well-known restaurants serving delicious local and international cuisines such as Bumbu, Sabar Menanti, Rumah Makan Minang Pte Ltd and Le Pont De Vie have never failed to prove their culinary skills to the test of the patrons. What only remains until today, is the architectural style throughout the whole stretch of the two-storey shophouses which are located beside the Sultan Mosque and opposite Gedung Kuning. This architectural design symbolises the community resided within that area during the British colonial era.
